顔写真や肖像写真をじっと見ていてシンメトリーを感じるのはむしろ不自然なことなのかもしれない。目のおおきさのわずかなちがいや唇のかたちの左右の不均衡こそがめだって把握されてしまうのは、ひとえに顔がシンメトリカルであるという自明性が了解されてこそなのだ。
